Expeditions among the Dolomite landscapes

Travelling along roads and footpaths running through valleys and woodlands deep in the natural landscape helps us keep in shape and restores our sense of calm and mental balance. Just put a rucksack on your back and you'll find how easy it is from the Hotel Union to start off on one of the many trails that run around Dobbiaco and across the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Peaks, dairies and unrivalled views

You can choose to climb up to the most enchanting peaks, drinking in from on high the breath-taking views over the Dolomites. The Locatelli, Bonner or Prato Piazza refuges or Monte Elmo, Monte Baranci and Monte Specie are just some of the possible destinations.
Also worth trying are the trails leading to the mountain dairies surrounded by vast pasturelands full of wild flowers where you can try the milk just collected and really tasty cheeses.

Lago di Braies

If your preference is for the peace and quiet of  mountain lakes you can easily take a walk on the paths skirting Lakes Braies and Dobbiaco.
The mountain lake Lago di Braies, known as "the pearl of the Dolomites", covers 31 hectares in the Valle di Braies between Dobbiaco and Brunico. A peaceful footpath at a height of 1,600 metres will take you all round the edge of the lake. The footpath starts near the Hotel Pragser Wildsee, where you can park your car. The walk takes about 2 hours and it's also suitable for children. Along the way you will be making a voyage of discovery with many places to stop off for some refreshments or to take a dive into the crystal clear waters of the lake. Recently Lago di Braies became famous thanks to the Italian TV series Un passo dal Cielo, starring Terence Hill.

Lago di Dobbiaco

The little lake Lago di Dobbiaco, is every bit as picturesque. Not far from the Hotel, it is set among the Fanes-Sennes-Braies and Tre Cime natural parks, part of the Dolomites World Heritage Site. You can take a romantic boat trip marvelling at the Dolomite peaks of the Tre Cime or be brave enough to dive into the lake whose waters will refresh you after a long walk. Near the lake are plenty of restaurants and also a campsite. If you follow the nature trail around the banks of the lake, which takes two hours, you will find a lot of interesting facts about the Sesto Dolomites area displayed on the informative posters.

Lago di Landro

Lago di Landro is another local lake with a fantastic view over the Cristallo peaks, the ideal destination for a pleasant walk. The lake runs beside the road linking Dobbiaco to Cortina. There is a breath-taking view from the lake in which Tre Cime, Monte Piano and Monte Paterno are just some of the majestic peaks you can see on your way. If you take footpath 6a, following the stone cairns so typical of this locality, you come to the climbing walls. From the top of the rock wall you can enjoy an amazing view of the lake.
