Dobbiaco in wintertime

There's more than skiing to enjoy in wintertime Dobbiaco, you can also go snow-shoe walking, ice skating, pöckl and sledding.
To enjoy the mountains in peace, away from the more popular, crowded pistes, try walk on snowshoes following one of the peaceful snow-covered trails, or you can head downhill on a sled or traditional pöckl. If you prefer the thrill of ice-skating, you can pick out your favourite spot or ice rink.

Snowshoe excursions

Taking a walk on showshoes through the pure white snow-covered woodlands and meadows  is a truly magical experience, a way of exploring the mountain landscape without rushing and in peace, accompanied only by the muffled sound of our steps on that mantle of white.
Snowshoe walks are suitable for everyone and many trails of varying difficulty start from our hotel. Our staff at the Union will give you sound advice on the most scenic trails and the ones most suitable for you to spend a day in communion with nature and the enchanted landscape of the snow-covered mountains.

Sledding and Pöckl

San Candido and the Natural Park of the Sesto Dolomites offer a great many sled runs. An appointment not to be missed is the full moon sled run, while the Monte Baranci run in San Candido is a main attraction for anyone holidaying in this area.
The Baranci sled run in San Candido. Leaving from the arrival station of the chairlift and plunging down to the one at the foot of the hill, the run takes half an hour on a gradient of 320m.
The Val Campo di Dentro sled run in San Candido is easy and suitable for all the family. After leaving your car in the Gweng carpark you take a trail through the pine and larch-woods that, in about an hour, leads to the Tre Scarperi Refuge. From here you take the downhill run with slow stretches alternating with high-speed ones.
The Croda Rossa sled run in Sesto. Leaving from the arrival station of the chairlift and plunging down to the one at the foot of the hill, the run takes an hour on a gradient of 560m.
For a completely different experience you can try the Pöckl, a seat attached to a ski with a right and left-hand handle to hold on to. Initially it needs a fairly good sense of balance to drive it but, once mastered, bags of fun are guaranteed!

Fun on skates

A number of ice rinks are located close to the Hotel Union to spend a few hours of fun in good company. Not far from the hotel is the Dobbiaco ice rink with a skate-hire service and open until late evening. Or you can try the artificial ice rink in Sesto, the ice rink in Villabassa or go skating on the frozen Lake Dobiacco.

A tasty dinner

The perfect end to a marvellous day just has to be an excellent dinner in our restaurant, which also has a gluten-free menu, to recharge you batteries. There is a wide choice of  dishes, both local specialities and Mediterranean classics, prepared with fresh local products.
